PE and Sport Premium

St. Paul’s C of E Primary School believes that Physical Education (PE), experienced in a safe and supportive environment, is essential to ensure children attain optimum physical and emotional development and good health. We intend to deliver high-quality teaching and learning opportunities that inspire all children to succeed in physical education and in developing life skills. We want to teach children skills to keep them safe such as being able to swim.  We also want to teach children how to co-operate and collaborate with others as part of an effective team, understanding fairness and equality of play to embed life-long values. Our curriculum aims to improve the wellbeing and fitness of all children at St. Paul’s C of E Primary, not only through the sporting skills taught, but through the underpinning values and disciplines, PE promotes.

What is the PE and School Sport Premium?

The premium is funding that has been provided to ensure impact against the following:

OBJECTIVE:  To achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sport in primary schools.

It is important to emphasise that the focus of spending must lead to long-lasting impact against the vision (above) that will live on well beyond the Primary PE and Sport Premium funding.
It is expected that schools will see an improvement against the following 5 key indicators:

  1. the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy active lifestyles

  2. the profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement

  3. increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport

  4. broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils

  5. increased participation in competitive sport
