Face coverings are now optional, outside, within the school grounds. We would still ask you to wear one if having face to face conversations with staff.

Welcome to Year Four!

Welcome to Year Four!

I hope you have all had a lovely summer and ready for an exciting year ahead! I’m really looking forward to make this a successful year filled with valuable experiences that will support your children’s overall learning.

To start the academic year, our exciting topic is the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings, which will include learning about the Norman Conquest! Later on within this half term, we will be having a fun packed Viking Day which we are very excited about! Please read the attached curriculum overview to find out more about what we will be learning in each taught foundation subject.

In English, our Writing progression grids focus on punctuation. Our Reading progression grids focus on retrieving.

In Mathematics, our progression grids focus on number and place value. Your child’s progression grids will be published in your children’s partnership book shortly.

We will have P.E on Tuesdays and Thursdays but please make sure your child's kit is in school at all times as timetable can change due to weather.

Children will be learning Ukelele this year, children will have their own instrument that they will look after all year. Lessons will take place on Monday afternoons.

In Year 4, Homework will be given out on Fridays to be handed back in by the following Wednesday. By the end of Year 4, your child is expected to know all of their times tables and be able to say them at a fast pace! Please encourage your child to practise their focused times tables regularly. Children in Year 4 are expected to ready 5 times a week- please listen to your child read and record their reading in their partnership book.

I am looking forward to working together to make this a progressive and positive year for your children. Please feel free to come and talk to me before 9am and after school. However, please be mindful that at 9am I will need to take the children into the classroom and on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, we have our weekly staff meeting.

Kind regards,

Miss Burke
