Marvellous Mayans
Theme
This half term, we will be learning about the Maya Civilisation. We will learn where and when the remains of the Mayan ruins were discovered and how archaeologists look at how artefacts can help us find out about Maya Civilization. In our theme lessons, we will find out about some of the major achievements of the Maya, specifically a complete writing and number system, and the development of calendars.
Science
In science, we will be learning about the different parts of plants, the roles of those parts, and how water moves through plants. We will look at what plants need to survive. We will investigate what plants need to grow and will explore how changing the conditions of a plant will affect its growth.
Maths
This half term in maths, we will continue to look at decimals, including comparing and ordering, and rounding to the nearest whole number. We will also look at converting between pounds and pence and comparing amounts of money. We will explore digital and analogue time on a 24 hour clock also.
English
This half term, our book is "When the Giant Stirred" by Celia Godkin. We will be exploring synonyms, and how we can build a variety of words to add depth and detail to our writing, through dictionaries and thesauruses. We will look at speech, and the correct use of punctuation. We will also look at creating settings, characters and plots in narratives.
