In English, our text this term is ‘The Journey’ by Aaron Becker. This picture book is about a lonely girl who draws a magic door on her bedroom wall and through it escapes into a world where wonder, adventure, and danger. We will be learning to write descriptions of different settings and we will be creating our own story based on the book ‘The Journey’.
In Maths this term we will be focusing on Fractions, Time and Angles. Within Fractions, we will be learning how to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator within one whole. (eg 5/7 + 1/7 = 6/7). We will be learning how to tell and write the time from 12-hour and 24-hour digital clocks. This is something you could get practising at home! Within our angles topic we will be learning how to identify whether angles are greater than or less than a right angle.
This half term we will be learning about the Maya civilisation we will learn where and when the remains of the Mayan ruins were discovered and how archaeologist look at how artefacts to help us find out about the Maya civilisation. In our theme lessons, we will find out about some of the major achievements of the Maya, specifically a complete writing and number system, and the development of calendars.
In Science, we will be learning about the different parts of plants and how water moves through a plant. We will also investigate what plants need to grow and will explore how changing the conditions of a plant will affect the growth.
