Theme Learning Question:

Why does the Earth shake?

Our focus for this half term will be learning about different natural disasters. The children will be learning all about the natural disasters that affect the world today, including flooding, volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis. They will find out about their causes and effects through case studies.

For this half term, our science focus is on Rocks. We will be investigating the school grounds and inside the school to see which type of rock has been used and why. We will also look at other uses of rocks. We will look at the three different types of rock (Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic) and look at the characteristics and properties of these rocks, and how they are formed.

This half term, children will be identifying mixed and improper fractions and comparing and ordering them, as well as converting between mixed and improper fractions. Children will look at adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominators. Finally, children will look at identifying tenths and hundredths as decimals.

This half term, our book is "Where the Forest meets the Sea" by Jeannie Baker. Children will plan writing by discussing the structure, vocabulary and grammar of similar pieces of writing based around our book. Pupils will practice proof reading their work for spelling and punctuation errors, and discussing and recording their ideas effectively.
