Spring 1

Theme Learning Question:

Can one person change how we see the World?

Curriculum Coverage:

In Maths we will be looking at our second unit of multiplication and two units of fractions. In the multiplication section of our first unit, we are looking at our formal method and exploring how to multiply 2 digit numbers as well as 3 digit by 2 digit and 4 digit buy 2 digit. In the division section we will be looking at dividing a 4 digit number by 1 digit and working with remainders.

In English, our text is, 'Arthur and the Golden Rope’. This text takes us on a journey through Norse Mythology and will lead us to eventually write our own fictional story set in the Norse world. Within our English lessons, we will be exploring: relative clauses and relative pronouns, linking paragraphs through the use of adverbials, expanded noun phrases to convey complex information and using commas to clarify meaning and ambiguity.

In Science, we will be exploring Evolution and Inheritance. This will include looking at inherited characteristics, how plants and animals have adapted to survive in their environments and how humans have evolved over time.

Within our Theme lessons, we going to be looking at Charles Darwin in more detail and the journey that he took on HMS Beagle. We will be looking at longitude and latitude and how the World used to be navigated. We will be exploring what Darwin and Wallace discovered and how it was received in Britain and around the World.

RE sees us looking at a Christian Focus, ‘What does it mean if God is holy and loving?' We will be looking through various texts to explore this question and further build our understanding of what it means to be a Christian.
