Our theme learning question this Half term is... How many stories can I tell?

 

Year R Spring 1 : Favourite stories

This half term we will be learning about our Favourite stories.

We will be learning:

What story can I retell?

What is my favourite story?

Who writes a book? Can authors be male (boys) or female (girls)?

Important Vocabulary

 Book, author, illustrator, title, blurb, characters, setting, beginning, middle, end, story starters. Pantomime.

Reading

  •  I can retell a story some as exact repetition and some in my own words.
  • I can learn new vocabulary, use it throughout the day and in different contexts.
  • I can read some letter groups that each represent one sound and say the sounds for them.
  • I can re-read simple phrases and sentences to build up confidence in word reading, my fluency and understanding.

 

Writing

  • I can form letters correctly.
  • I can write my name.
  • I can write short sentences with words with letters that I know.
  • I can use a capital letter and full stop.

Maths

  • I can compare numbers.
  • I can recall number bonds for numbers 0 to 10.
  • I can link the number symbol with its cardinal value to 10 and beyond.
  • I can recognise and talk about 2D and 3D shapes.

 

 

In our daily Phonic session we will continue to follow The Read Write Inc scheme and begin some paired reading. We will learn to write our first name and then our family name.

 

In Mathematics we will start Power Maths Journal B of The Power Maths scheme. Number recognition and Our Day are both areas of Mathematics that we will continue. We will refer to our daily chart for the day, date, year, season and weather.

 

In Understanding the World we will be learning about comparing characters from the past, looking at maps, comparing Africa with England, understanding that some places are special to members of our community, explore the natural world around us and understand the effect of changing seasons on the natural world around us .

 

In Religious Education (RE )we will be learning about Respect, our whole school Christian value.

 

In Personal, Social and Emotional Development we will be showing resilience and perseverance in the face of challenge such as learning to fasten our own coat.
