Spring 1

Theme Learning Question:

What survives at the extremities of the Earth?

Curriculum Coverage:

In Maths, we will be looking at fractions once again. This time we will be looking at multiplying, finding fractions of a whole and fraction of an amount. We will also be looking at fractions in relations to decimals. In that specific unit, we will look at ‘Tenths’, ‘Hundredths’ and ‘Thousandths’ and their equivalent decimals. This will help prepare us for looking at percentages next half term.

In English, our text is one of my personal favourites, Arthur and the Golden Rope! In this unit we get to flex our narrative muscles and write our own Norse myth! We will be focussing on cohesive devices, relative clauses and the effective use of expanded noun phrases. This will also be an opportunity to develop our understanding of speech further.

In Science, we are looking at the Properties of materials. This learning area will concentrate on what makes up solids, liquids and gases. This area will see us carry out a number of investigations into reversible changes, separating materials and categorising materials.

Within Geography, we will be exploring the Polar Regions. This half-term will see us look at how animals and plants have adapted to their environment, who has explored the regions and the climates & seasons within these regions.

RE sees us looking at a Christian Focus. We will be looking at what makes the perfect divine being as well as what the Bible says about the Christian God. We will be exploring new vocabulary such as omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent.
