Autumn 2

Theme Learning Question:

Does the time fit the crime?

Curriculum Coverage:

In Maths, we will be looking at fractions and measures. Within our fractions unit children will be exploring equivalent fractions, adding and subtracting fractions, multiplying and dividing fractions and finding fractions of amounts. In measures, we will be looking at different metric and imperial measures, converting between and within these units as well as problem-solving tasks.

In English, our text is, 'Star of Fear, Star of Hope'. We will be looking at the historical context of the treatment of Jews in Northern France during the Nazi occupation. The children will be writing for a range of purposes including a diary entry and a flashback narrative. We will be extending our use of expanded noun phrases and making our paragraphs more concise using a range of cohesive devices.

In Science, we are looking at Light. This learning area will concentrate on how we see, refraction, parts of the eye and show colours are seen.

Within our Theme lessons, we are investigating how Crime and Punishment have changed over time. We will be exploring periods of time and looking at the trends and how Laws have changed and been adapted. Also, we will be looking at the Suffragette movement and the creation of the Magna Carta.

RE sees us looking at a Christian Focus, 'Was Jesus the Messiah?' We will be looking at examples within the Old Testament that talks about a 'rescuer' or 'anointed one'.
