Theme Learning Question:

What makes our county diverse?

 

Curriculum Coverage:

In Maths we will be looking at Addition and Subtraction and Multiplication and division. Within Addition and Subtraction we will be learning how to use different methods to add and subtract 3 digit numbers. This term we will learning and practicing the 3,4 and 8 times table. We will be learning to solve a range of problem-solving lessons around multiplication and division. 

 

In English, our text is, 'The Winters Child'. Within our English lessons, we will be exploring the features of a fantasy story and we will be writing our own fantasy story based on a fable.  We will be learning how to use conjunctions and prepositions within our writing. 

 

In Science, we will be learning about 'Light and shadow’ we will be learning that shadows are formed when the light from a light source is blocked by an opaque object. The children will explore how shadows are created, then conduct practical shadow investigations where they will predict, test and draw/ write to show their findings. We will learn that light is reflected from surfaces and travels in straight lines.

 

Within our Theme lessons, we are learning about ‘The Marvellous Midlands’. We will be learning to locate cities and counties within the Midlands. We will be learning to identify human and physical features of cities in the Midlands on a map. We will explore how the city of Leicester is diverse and we will compare an inner city area to Woodhouse Eaves.

 

Year 3 Autumn 2: The Marvellous Midlands

This half term we will be learning about ‘The Marvellous Midlands’. We will be learning to locate cities and counties within the Midlands and to identify human and physical features of cities in the Midlands on a map.   • I can add and numbers with up to three digits using column addition.
  • I can subtract numbers with up to three digits using column subtraction, including borrowing.
  • I can solve missing number problems, using number facts, place value and more complex addition and subtraction.
