Year 4 Spring 2 Newsletter

Dear Parent/Carers and Children,

Welcome back! I hope you all had a lovely half term break and ready for the rest of the Spring Term.

Our new topic that we are going to focus on is the Government! We will be learning what a government and parliament is and how it is ran on a daily basis. We will be learning about the very important positions within a government and what they do to help run the United Kingdom. We will then be using Drama and hot seating when running scenarios of what you would do to show democracy and dictatorship when having the position of being the Prime Minister. We will also be having a Mayor Visit that will give us more of an insight of this fascinating topic.

Within Mathematics, our leaps focus on Division. We will still be recalling our Multiplication facts to support us building our knowledge when remembering division facts up to 12x12. We will also be practicing how to mentally calculate division calculations and how to give our reasons why. To help us with our Division calculations, we will has been learning the method of chunking to break down the problem and solve them easier.

In our Writing, we are focusing on Verb Tenses. We will learn how to identify verb forms and how to pick out the subject, verb and object within a sentence. We will also be learning about the importance of having sentences that show a subject and verb agreement. To support our grammatical skills, we also learning how we can identify and use Standard English verb inflections for writing.

During our reading, we will be understanding how to identify, analyse and discuss themes within fiction texts. When showing this, we will then be able to build skills at giving reasons of the overall effectiveness of the text.

Homework will still continue to be given out on a Friday and will be due in the following Wednesday (I have attached the Homework Menu at the bottom of the page). P.E still continues to be on a Monday with me teaching Gymnastics and Friday with myself and Mr Kinally teaching Hockey.

Please continue to approach me before 9am and after school with any queries. If any parents have a particular skill or interest that will link to our topics, do not hesitate to contact me!

I hope you all have another lovely half term,

Miss Burke
