Spring 2

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Spring 2!. During this half term, the children’s topic will be ’Travel the World’. If you have any resources or interesting facts about the World, please let me know!

We will have a geography focus this term where the children will be learning all about the United Kingdom and other cities across the World. This links to our Science topic, which is all about the weather and seasons.

We also have an Art focus this term and we will be looking at Aboriginal art. We are going to design some art and investigate different types of Aboriginal art. At the end of the half term, we are going to design our own digeridoos- if you have any spare cardboard tubes (not toilet rolls) please send them in!

Over the course of this half-term, our Maths will focus on division, and in English we will be using many verbs in the present and past tense. When reading stories, we will be thinking about the characters in the story and what the moral of the story is. We will also continue with guided reading and begin our Cracking Comprehension.

Your child’s individual leaps are stuck into their partnership books. These leaps will be continuously worked on throughout the half term. It would be very helpful if you could support your child at home in understanding these leaps and what they can work on to develop their skills.

Our PE topic this half term is ‘dance'. The children will be demonstrating simple movements and joining them together in a sequence. We will be performing these dances to music. We are indoors for dance, so please can I remind you to check your child has correct indoor PE kit (white t-shirt, black shorts, white socks and black plimsolls).

As we have begun a new topic, the homework menu has changed, so please familiarise yourself with this. The homework menu is non-compulsory, but please ensure you are working with your child to practise the weekly spellings, you are reading on a regular basis and practising times tables and number bonds. Homework is sent out on a Friday and due in on the following Wednesday. Reading books are changed on a regular basis- Monday, Wednesday and Friday and spellings are checked once a week.

If you have any additional concerns, please do not hesitate to catch me in the playground before or after school or write a message in the partnership book.

Have a happy half term,

Miss Johnson.
