Year 3's Visit To New Walk Museum

Year 3 had a fantastic time when we visited New Walk Museum on November 30th as part of our Ancient Egypt topic. With the assistance of two parent helpers all 31 children in the class visited the Leicester museum to enjoy their ‘Meet the Mummies’ experience.

Our visit started by learning more about the everyday life of rich and poor, skilled and unskilled people in Ancient Egypt. The initial talk also expanded our knowledge on the importance of the Nile, the climate, geography and landscape of the country.

The children then had the privilege to handle and investigate a variety of 3,000-year-old everyday and religious artefacts from Ancient Egypt, before meeting the museum’s resident mummies where they learnt more about the mummification process and Ancient Egyptian beliefs about the afterlife.

A quick tour of the museum’s galleries followed before the children’s learning culminated in a series of four hands-on carousel activities. The children created clay amulets, used ancient Egyptian Technology to drill a hole, dressed up in replica costumes and took part in an Ancient Egyptian quiz.
