Shakespeare Trip to Stratford

This half term we have been studying the life and work of William Shakespeare.  Last week we were lucky enough to visit Stratford to take part in a drama workshop at the Shakespeare Centre.  We learnt a variety of different acting techniques, thought about how a performance might have been staged in Shakespearean times and looked at the theories behind some of Shakespeare’s more unusual character names.  The children used sticks and soundscapes to create a very dramatic forest for their retelling of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  After lunch, we looked at the costumes and make-up used to stage a performance and we even saw the coat worn by David Tennant when he performed in Hamlet.  After a jam-packed day, the children worked together to stage scenes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream before putting it altogether for a final performance.  It was a fantastic day and incredibly inspiring for all of the children.
