Autumn 2 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Welcome back, I hope you had a lovely half term break. During this next half term, the children will be learning all about Julia Donaldson and some of the stories she has written including The Gruffalo. This topic ties in nicely to our Science topic which is all about animals. We will be looking at some of the animals from The Gruffalo and grouping and labelling them. Also, in our Art lessons, we will be looking at the work of Axel Scheffler who illustrated many of Julia Donaldson’s stories.

Within our Design and Technology lessons, the children will be cooking lots of different ‘Gruffalo’ recipes including Roasted Fox and Gruffalo Crumble.

Over the course of this half-term our Maths will focus on addition and subtraction, and in English we will be focusing on thinking and writing sentences which make sense, as well continuing to use capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.

Your child’s individual leaps are stuck into their partnership books. These leaps will be worked on continuously throughout the half term. It would be very helpful if you could support your child at home in understanding these leaps and what they can work on to develop their skills.

Our PE topic this half term is ‘health and fitness’. This topic includes healthy eating and the impact of fitness on our bodies. The children will be working very hard at increasing their heart rate!

PE days are Monday and Tuesday, so can I please remind you to check your child has both indoor and outdoor PE kits at all times.

As we have begun a new topic, the homework menu has changed, so please familiarise yourself with this. The homework menu is non-compulsory, but please ensure you are working with your child to practise the weekly spellings and you are reading on a regular basis. Homework is sent out on a Friday and due in on the following Wednesday. Reading books are changed on a regular basis- Monday, Wednesday and Friday and spellings are checked once a week.

If you have any additional concerns, please do not hesitate to catch me in the playground before or after school or write a message in the partnership books.

Happy wishes,

Miss Johnson.
