France 2017 Day 4

We can’t believe that we are already coming to the end of our final full day in France!

Our first activity was the eagerly anticipated market trip in Abbeville; during the tour around the covered food area, the children practised their French vocabulary.  They observed another side of French culture: the purchasing of a very wide range of foods at the market.  The children behaved impeccably and were all confidently using their French to ask how much something costs and then to ask to purchase it.  All of the adults were very impressed with their maturity and efforts to speak the native language.

Satiated by a delicious lunch, the children took part in a fun afternoon of sporting activities back at the chateau.  Over the course of the afternoon, the children became skilled at both volleyball and petanque (the traditional French pastime).

At dinner time the children were able to sample delicious – and customary – French cuisine.  We were very proud of the children for trying these more unusual delicacies: frogs legs and snails.

Excitingly, the evening is being rounded off with a campfire (and songs)!

We will be getting up early tomorrow morning to complete our itinerary with a visit to the boulangerie – bakery – before making our journey home.
