Parent Letter Autumn 1

Dear Parents,

We hope you all had a good summer holiday, and are looking forward to an exciting but hard working year! To find out more about our exciting World war Two Topic please click on the link at the bottom of the page.

Homework

Homework tasks will be handed out and written in children’s partnership books on Friday to be handed in the following Friday. Homework will be based on what we have been learning in class, though if your child is unsure of how to complete any of the activities please don’t hesitate to ask me. Just a quick reminder that part of the weekly homework time in year 6 should also be used for independent reading. Every child should be reading for at least 10 minutes every night and recording this in the space provided in their partnership book to record the reading they are doing at home. Please also spend time at home regularly going over the week’s spelling list in order to help your child remember all of them.

We will be continuing with the weekly times tables challenge in order to prepare the children for the new element of the maths SATs.  Please ensure that your child is continuing to practise the times tables that they bring home in order that by May they are confident with all tables up to 12x12.

PE

Our PE sessions this term are on Wednesday and Thursday. For safety reasons we follow the ‘NO jewellery’ policy for PE so please can we ask that children with pierced ears do not wear earrings to school on PE days (unless they are newly pierced, in which case please send plasters so they can be covered for the lesson). Children who do wear earrings to school will be asked to remove them before taking part in the lesson. This term we will be doing PE outside (weather permitting) so please check that your child’s PE kit includes plimsolls or trainers that can be worn outside as well as a pair of black tracksuit trousers for when the weather gets colder.
