Welcome to Summer 2

Welcome to Summer 2

Welcome back…to the last half term in the 4+!

What an amazing year we’ve had already, but it isn’t quite over yet and this half term promises to be just as busy, fun and fantastic as the others.

Early Years Curriculum

This half term our topic is ‘The seaside’. To develop our Understanding of the World we will be looking at beaches and holiday destinations around the world, investigating the similarities and differences between them. We will be researching British seaside holidays from the past and will be travelling back in time with a visit from the Tempus Fugit Theatre Group to take part in their Victorian seaside show. We will be thinking about our own holiday experiences and memories and sharing our hopes for places we would one day like to visit.

Our Literacy sessions will link closely to this half term’s writing Leaps, concentrating on handwriting and letter formation and we will be practising using lots of different media. We will also focus on putting writing into context through activities such as writing postcards, letters, lists and creating signs for our role-play area.

During our Maths sessions we will be concentrating on time, money and measures. We will be learning to recognise different coins and notes and using these within our role-play seaside café. We will practise using equipment to help us measure height, length, weight and capacity and compare our findings using appropriate mathematical terminology.

During Personal, Social and Emotional sessions we will be talking about relationships, particularly new relationships as we begin to think about our transition into Year 1.

During our PE sessions we welcome Mr Kinally back to the 4+ for our focus on outdoor games during which we will consolidate skills such as kicking, throwing, catching and travelling in a range of ways. In the 4+ we will also be participating in the Early Years Dance Project over the coming weeks, a collaboration we are very excited about!

We will have the chance to explore lots of aspects within RE, art, music and ICT through guided and independent sessions. Within our French sessions we will focus on weather.
