Summer 1 Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you have all had a wonderful Easter break and that the children have come back to school well rested and ready to learn. Our topic this term is Castles and we will be learning all about different types of castles, what was life like inside a castle, the different parts of a castle and learning about knights and the armour they wore.

During this half-term we will be carrying out our SATs tests in reading and mathematics.

In English we will be reading mythical stories about castles. We will be using these stories to help us write in different genres including diaries, recounts and letters. We will be using a range of noun phrases, adjectives and powerful verbs to describe places and characters.

In Maths, we will be learning to tell the time to five minutes past, finding totals of money and giving change and reading graphs.

In Science, our topic is materials and we will be exploring different types of materials and using scientific vocabulary to describe their properties. We will be investigating which material will be suitable for certain things.

In Art, we will be drawing pictures of castles, making models of castles and designing and making a shield.

Our topic this term in PE is fielding and striking. Children will need to ensure that they have both an indoor and outdoor PE kit in school. Our days for PE this term, are Tuesday and Thursday.

The LEAPs for this half-term are in your child’s partnership book.

Have a great term!

Best Wishes,

Ms Patel
