Summer 1 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Welcome back! I hope you had a great Easter break.

This half term our new topic is Wildlife and we will enjoy a science focus in our work.  We will be thinking about how plants live and grow in our Science and enjoy having some creepy crawly visitors to our classroom.

In Literacy we will be thinking about non-fiction recounts and information texts.   We will be researching and writing some exciting information pages about mini-beasts then writing a report on how to grow a plant.  We will also investigate stories about growing plants e.g. Jaspers beanstalk, Oliver’s vegetables and write our own version.

In Numeracy we will be thinking about Fractions.  We will also be engaged with daily time tasks in class so we know when things happen at home and in school.  In our maths challenge tasks will also have fun measuring and weighing all sorts of things…including worms!

In PE this half term we will enjoy an athletics and games unit.  We will be developing our bat and ball skills and thinking the events in a heptathlon.

We will be discovering the art of Andy Goldsworthy and Eric Carle this half term and think about how to use natural objects and pattern to create art works.

We will be venturing up to the Beacon as part of our topic this term and would much appreciate any parental help we could get to do so!

Can you help with our topic? If you have any experiences, knowledge or resources you think could benefit our topic please don’t hesitate to let me know about them so that I can plan them in.

Our Leap Focus

Maths – We will be thinking about fractions. e.g I can find half of an object, shape or quantity

Writing – We will have a focus on composition and effect e.g I can use adjectives to describe nouns in my sentences. E.g The red car. The huge castle.

Reading – We will be focusing on the organisation of texts e.g. I can identify the key organisational features of a fiction book. E.g.  title, front cover, blurb, illustrations, author and illustrator.

If you need to see me, please don’t hesitate to catch me at the beginning or end of school.

Wishing you a happy half term ,
