February Newsletter

Welcome to the February newsletter which signals the halfway point in the academic year!

Huge congratulations go to Mrs Halsall who has been designated as a Senior Leader of Education (SLE) for Maths through our Loughborough Learning Alliance and Ashmount Teaching School.

Congratulations also go to Mrs Culling, Miss Joslin and Mrs Blackwell who have also been recognised by the Alliance as potential future SLE’s. They are now designated as Aspirant Senior Leaders of Education for Special Education Needs, EYFS and RE respectively.

Mrs Watret needs a special mention too, as she has completed an amazing 25 years service! She is an incredible member of our team and her dedication and commitment has enabled hundreds and hundreds of children to achieve their full potential. There are so many things that would not be possible without Mrs Watret so well done and a huge thank you for all of your hard work.

Please may we remind all parents and carers that dogs are not allowed on school property and should NOT be left unaccompanied whilst tied near school entrances e.g. on pathway or near gates of Rawlins Close and Park & Stride.

There are obvious risks associated with dog fouling but other considerations relate to the well-being of our children. Some children are nervous around dogs and some are allergic to them. Even the most friendly dog can be nervous if approached by boisterous or unfamiliar children and respond unpredictably.

A child was bitten on the face by a ‘friendly dog’ at a school in our locality. The vast majority of our families are complying with our policy but unfortunately not all. Please don’t let this incident be repeated at our School.

Please ensure that you do not bring your dog onto the school site through any entrance, nor leave them unaccompanied at gates or pathways.

We have some children with SEVERE and life threatening nut allergies in our school.

We are doing our best to provide a nut-free environment for these children. Please ensure that you do not send your child to school with any nuts or nut products.

Thank you for supporting our aim to be as close to a nut free school as we can.

We have recently received a bequest from the Late Dorothy O Jones, who was a resident in the village. We were thrilled to receive this kind bequest and have agreed with the Executors of Dorothy’s Estate for the bequest to help fund our Power Challenge. We have lots of children on their way to achieving enough Points for a Family Day Out and look forward to funding these alongside our many donated tickets.

The children took part in the Fitness in Schools which raises funds for both our local LOROS hospice and St Paul’s. The children enjoyed the fitness sessions and learnt new, or reinforced old, sporting skills. Thank you to everyone who sponsored the children. If you still have sponsor money to send in, please could you do so in order that we can see what an amazing job the children have done and to get the much needed funds over to LOROS as soon as possible. The deadline for sponsorship money is Friday 3rd March. We will let you know how much was raised in March’s newsletter.

In Year 4’s Class Assembly, they shared all the mischief they got into during their trip to the Space Centre. This included fun on the bus and getting chance to see all the exhibits after came to life at night. We also got chance to hear Year 4’s planet rap and them play their clarinets.

Well done Year 4.

Our Collective Workshop will focus on Shrove Tuesday and after the children have had their fill of pancakes, we will return to school on Wednesday for a special Collective Workshop led by Reverend Lisa for Ash Wednesday.

We are holding the Spring School Disco on Friday 3rd March. Please get your reply slips for ticket requests in as soon as possible. Please put in an envelope marked “DISCO” and either yourself or your child can place them in the post box in reception.   Tickets will be issued to your child on Thursday 2nd March so please keep an eye out in book bags!

4+ & KS1 (Yrs 1 & 2)               5.15pm until 6.30pm

KS2 (Yrs 3 to 6)                     6.45pm until 8.00pm

Please use Rawlins Close or Park & Stride to drop children off at Reception and then collect from the side Hall doors at the front of the School. When your child arrives, please take your child’s coat back home with you as we do not have cloakroom facilities. Children are NOT permitted to have mobiles phones with them.

The PTA would also be grateful for helpers please. If you can help, please could you state this on the reply slip and a committee member of the PTA will contact you if your help is needed.

4+ had a Village Walk and had a visit from Mrs Hunter, our Lollipop Lady as part of their ‘People Who Help Us’ topic.

Yr 4 Enjoyed a visit to Leicester Space Centre as part of their Space Topic.

Our progress meetings were well attended and hopefully enabled parents to share the progress seen so far this academic year, as well as confirming pupil learning goals for the end of the year. If you did not manage to attend, your class teacher will be asking you to make an alternative appointment this term. It is our aim to see 100% of parents and carers.

We are once again collecting the Sainsbury’s vouchers to obtain sports equipment for the school. There are collection boxes in school for your child to post the vouchers through. Please ask Grandmas and Grandads to collect as well!
