Welcome to the Spring 2 term!

Spring 2 Newsletter

Welcome to a really busy half term!  This term started with an assessment week to see how well the children have remembered the curriculum. Over the next few weeks we will be target teaching the areas that the children struggled with. It is really important that children are using their revision books at home to help them with their homework and to keep going over the topics we have covered. They will also be bringing home completed papers to enable them to practise the areas they found difficult. This half term is crucial so it is important that children attend school every day -  please do not book any appointments during this time. The children have been working really hard and the next few weeks should give them the confidence to achieve their very best during the SATs.

In between revision lessons we will be learning all about our bodies in our ‘Inner Space’ topic. During this we will learn about the key systems of our body and how to keep ourselves healthy. In English we will be taking part in debates to help us write a balanced argument, helping us put into practise all the skills we have learnt about grammar and punctuation. In our RE work we will be investigating what makes Christians believe that Jesus rose from the dead.  We will be reviewing evidence from the Bible and considering what it tells Christians.

In PE this term we will start a new gymnastics unit during our Friday lesson – children will need long hair tied back and a pair of shorts. We will also fit in some health and fitness lessons around our busy revision schedule to keep our bodies and brains active. Our PE days may change and may often be outside so it is really important that children keep their full kit (including outside trainers) in school. For safety reasons, we follow the ‘NO jewellery’ policy for PE so children who do wear earrings to school will be asked to remove them before taking part in the lesson.

Our Leaps and Ladders for block 4 are:

Reading: Language choice

Writing: Verb Tenses

Maths: Fractions and Division

Children’s individual leaps are stuck in their partnership books.

Homework

Homework tasks will be handed out and written in children’s partnership books on Friday to be handed in the following Friday. Homework will be based on what we have been learning in class, though if your child is unsure of how to complete any of the activities please don’t hesitate to ask me. Please also spend time at home regularly going over the week’s spelling list in order to help your child remember all of them.

We will be continuing with the weekly times tables challenge so children will need to practise the tables that they bring home.  It is vital that the children continue to work on mastering learning these facts (and other key facts from their revision books such as equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages) so that they are able to quickly apply this knowledge to all of their maths work.

Thank you for all your help and support,

Mrs Halsall and Mrs Blackwell
