Year 2 Newsletter: Spring Term  (2nd Half)

Welcome back. I hope you all had a restful and relaxing break. It will be a busy half term and we are hoping to pack lots in before the Easter break!

Our topic for this half-term is ‘Famous People’.

We will be finding out about famous people in the past and how they have shaped our lives today. We will be focusing especially on Florence Nightingale and how she helped the soldiers in the Crimean War. We will also look at how Mary Seacole helped the soldiers in the Crimean War.

  • In English we will be reading a range of text and from these texts we will be planning our own version of the stories, writing them and making improvements to our finish pieces of writing. The children need to make sure their writing has:
  • Sentences with different forms: statement, question, exclamation, command
  • To use familiar and new punctuation correctly including full stops, capital letters, exclamation marks, question marks, commas in lists
  • Spelling common words
  • Apply spelling rules

In Maths we will be continuing work on fractions, as well as looking at 2 and 3 dimensional shapes, measuring using metres and centimetres and finding totals of notes and coins and giving change.

In Art we will be making portraits of Florence Nightingale. We will look at various artists and will be replicating our own pictures.

PE will still be on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the children will need a PE kit that is suitable for outside use. Our unit is net games and we will be outside whatever the weather! Please check that your child’s plimsolls are the correct size. Trainers are permitted. Please name all items.

Best wishes
