Spring 2 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

The topic for this half term is ‘Our Environment’. Over the unit we learn how more about our local environment, our planet and the effect we have on it. We will become a team of Eco warriors determined to reduce our waste and energy usage to improve our world.

During science we will be learning about plant and animal life cycles so fingers crossed for some warmer weather so we can get out in the garden. We will also be investigating how solar panels and wind turbines can be used to generate electricity.

We would be very grateful if your child has any books or toys at home linked to the topic that you are happy for them to share with the class.

Please continue to support your child's learning of their multiplication tables and division facts.  We are aiming for instant recall of all multiplication tables and also related facts for example from this key fact:

7 x 8 = 56

we can also say that:

7 x 80 = 560

560 / 70 = 8

0.7 x 8 = 5.6

and so on

Please encourage your child to read every day and record this in their Partnership Book - don't forget to ask them about what they have read.  We are starting to compare different books at school, including style, similar characters, plots and grammatical features.  Please encourage your child to complete a book review using the attached format that they will be familiar with.

Leaps and Ladders

Please see the attached curriculum overview for more details of our learning this half term.

Our PE sessions this term are to be confirmed in the first week back - children should have their PE kit at school every day as slots do change from time to time. For safety reasons we follow the ‘NO jewellery’ policy for PE so please can I ask that children with pierced ears do not wear earrings to school on PE days. Children who do wear earrings to school will be asked to remove them before taking part in the lesson. This term we will be doing rugby and hockey outside so children will need plain black tracksuit trousers and top as well as shoes appropriate for being on the field.

I value your support and comments so do not hesitate to contact me if you have a concern. I will be available in the playground every day before and after school and the partnership book also has a space for you to pass on any important messages.

We are looking forward to another really exciting topic.

Yours faithfully,

Mr Bacon
