Please find attached our revised term dates for 2017/18.
We appreciated your comments and feedback on planned changes made to the Autumn term dates.
We have now received approval from the Local Authority (LCC) to return to school later than the proposed LCC date for the Academic Year 2017/18. This means school will open to children on Tuesday 29th August as planned.
Some of our families had already pre-booked holidays for October 2017 half-term dates in line with LLC, and for this reason the Local Authority have asked us to delay any changes to the October half-term holiday until October 2018. Although we will have to manage the very long second half term this Autumn, we will hopefully be able to avoid it in following years.
We will let you know about any possible changes as early as possible to avoid any clash with holiday plans for our families for 2018/19.
I attach our confirmed and final holiday dates for 2017/18. These will not be altered this year, so it is safe to book holidays using these dates.
Thank you for all of your valuable feedback which is detailed below.
A minority of parents requested some more information which I detail below.
- The dates had been planned to allow for a longer and more productive half term at the beginning of Autumn. We feel this is vital for maximising learning after the long Summer break. It also means that the half term leading up to Christmas (which is always very busy) is of a reasonable length and supports our Learning Leaps.
- There were two key differences to the Leicestershire County Council dates only affecting the long Autumn Term.
The first being that School will open to Teachers only on Wednesday 23rd August (INSET) instead of Tuesday 22nd August. We will finish school on Thursday 21st December at 3.30pm to accommodate this day.
The second being that the planned October half term will commence on Monday 23rd October instead of Monday 16th October. N.B. THIS IS NOW REVISED to Monday 16th October as per LCC dates.
All other dates are in line with the published Leicestershire County Council dates.
The planned October half term break differed to that of Rawlins Academy and 3 families have raised a concern about this difference and the possible impact on childcare for this week. We took this concern very seriously and were actively looking at the possibility of providing an option at St Paul’s during this week.
