November Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to our November newsletter. Time to start to wrap up warm and get ready for our Christmas activities.

Mrs Milnthorpe has sadly had to retire due to ill health. We are fortunate to have the excellent support of Peter Clay as a temporary Premises Officer.

In November we held a Diwali focus collective worship and the children learnt many facts about the Hindu festival of lights and particularly about how Diwali is celebrated by Hindus in Britain.

Once again, we had lots of visitors for our open classrooms and some very positive comments. Thank you for popping in. We look forward to welcoming you again in the Spring Term.

Thank you to Year 6 for their interesting assembly telling us all about World War II. They have found out so much in such a short time.

On the day of the USA Presidential elections Year 5 held their assembly and shared lots of the facts about the USA with a particular focus on Texas. (This is the State their novel ’Holes’ by Louis Sacher is set). The highlight of the show had to be the whole class line dance (yes…. including Mr Bacon).

Year 6 headed to Stratford Upon Avon and had the most amazing, hands on, theatrical experience bringing their Shakespeare topic to life.

Year 5 enjoyed a line dancing experience with the Silver Liners.

Year 4’s topic was enhanced by a special workshop where they became investigators and solved crimes.

Year4 3 enjoyed an exciting trip to New Walk Museum to bring their Egyptian topic to life.

Year 2 had an exiting hands on visit to the Think Tank Museum in Birmingham.

Year 1 wrapped up warm on a frosty morning and went Gruffalo hunting on Beacon Hill.

4+ had their topics supported by really interesting talks from a Pharmacist (thank you Mrs Mistry) and a GP (thank you Mrs Searancke). 4+ also enjoyed a healthy walk to the Village and enjoyed singing their Christmas Sons at the Seniors’ Christmas lunch at the Baptist Church.

A big THANK YOU goes to everyone who helped us to raise money in support of Children in Need. Together, so far, we have managed to raise a staggering £1415.30 whilst having a great time in our spots and doing the sponsored walk. Between us we walked or ran the 210 miles from Woodhouse Eaves to Chateau Broutel in France!

Our Winter Fete was held on Saturday 19th November.

We had games, crafts, refreshments, competitions, an amazing raffle and of course…SANTA in his spectacular ice castle.

There was a great atmosphere at the fete and it was thoroughly enjoyed by both the children and the adults. A lovely early start to the season.

Huge thanks go to all of you for being there and supporting your school and to the parents, teachers and Governors who worked hard on Friday evening and Saturday to make it such a success.

We will let you know in the next newsletter how much was raised.

Particular thanks go to Anna Kalawsky-Burgess (Chair Person) and her PTA team for organising another great event.

Mrs Halsall and Mrs Blackwell held an informative evening for Y6 parents about the end of year assessment tests. Thank you to all the families that attended this session.

Please keep a note of the dates for the tests and make sure that you do not book any appointments on these important days.

If you did not manage to attend please see Mrs Halsall and Mrs Blackwell will give you a guide to Y6 SATs which will answer any questions you might have.

The PTA AGM was held this month and we are delighted to announce the following officers:-

Chair               Mrs Kalawsky-Burgess

Vice Chair        Mrs Disley

Secretary         Mrs Summerley

Treasurer         Mr Hollas

We are all looking forward to another exciting year for our children and families. Funds this year are being targeted for the purchase of a new kiln, brightening up the Woodhouse and supporting our visits and visitors.

Please remember that we have an ‘Amazing Achiever’s Board’ in our school’s entrance area. This board celebrates the achievements of our children in and outside of school. If your child has an achievement that they would like to share, please let us know. If you have a photograph or certificate that we could copy, that would be even better! Things to send in might be sporting or musical achievements, competition prizes or charity activities. Send the item in with your child via the book bag and let us know if you would like us to copy originals or use what you have sent.

With December upon us, we could see some snow before and after Christmas.

In the first instance, check our website regularly to see if we are open. This will be very clear on the scrolling banner on the front page.

Please also listen to announcements on BBC Radio Leicester (104.9FM) or check their website to check for a possible school closure.

PLEASE DO NOT RING SCHOOL directly as staff will not be available to take your call.

No website announcement and no BBC Radio Leicester announcement means school will be open as normal.

Just to remind you that all of our dates for the year are on the website. Click on the Parent Info tab and then on Calendar. Please also check the Upcoming Events for events this month.

As we enter the last two weeks of term we are getting busier and busier.

Class teaching and topics will continue as normal but will be interspersed with the Panto, plays and parties.

Please also keep checking your T2P messages and emails to make sure you are aware of everything going on.

We are looking forward to an exciting run up to the Christmas break and wish you all an enjoyable advent.

Hopefully we will see you all at one or more of our Christmas plays.

Yours sincerely
