Our visit to Stratford for our Shakespeare workshop

On Monday 21st November, in torrential rain, year six set off for an exciting Shakespeare workshop in Stratford -Upon-Avon. We were met by our leaders for the day (Pete and Val) who immediately got us learning how to project our voice and have fun. The next challenge was a game of whoosh; we retold A Midsummer Night's Dream with each of us taking on different roles. Once we were all familiar with the story, we learnt more about the three different themes - the couples in love, the fairies and the mechanicals. We used what we had learned in each of these workshops to perform our own version of the play using Shakespeare's text. As a little bonus we also had a visit from a lady who works in the wardrobe and make-up department for the RSC. She turned Arran into a pirate (he wore a jacked worn by David Tennant himself!), Rose into a beautiful fairy and then demonstrated the effects used in the theatre when someone is stabbed. We all have an absolutely fabulous day.
