France 2016 - Day 5

The Journey Home

The teachers woke everyone early this morning. With slightly bleary eyes, we packed our cases and had our last French breakfast. Graham packed all our bags onto the coach and we set off. We waved goodbye to the chateaux and headed off to the boulangerie.

We had a fabulous time at Le Fournil Boulangerie and Pattiserie. We learned about making traditional French bread using a wood fired oven that could fit in 150 loaves of bread at once. We found out about the tradition of eating fresh bread each day and how important this is in the French culture. We met the master baker who taught us the ingredients for making croissants and then we all had a go at making them.   The boulangerie gave us lots of croissants and pain au chocolat for our journey home.

We made great time through northern France and managed to get onto an earlier ferry. This meant that, once again, we drove straight on board without queuing. We brought our croissants with us and found a great spot to sit and chat. The crossing was very smooth and we soon spotted the white cliffs of Dover coming into view once again.

Unfortunately , the traffic in the UK was less friendly but we enjoyed some films on our executive coach while eating our lunch and snacks. Before too long, some familiar places were signposted and we finally arrived back in Woodhouse Eaves.

What an amazing experience we have all had. The teachers are incredibly proud of all the children for overcoming fears, trying new experiences with enthusiasm, cementing friendships and making new ones. We were complimented many times on the exceptional behaviour and good manners of our students. A massive thank you to all the children for being so fabulous - we hope that you all enjoyed your trip and have a great half term break with lots of well-deserved rest!
