Rt. Hon Nick Gibb's Letter to St. Pauls

NEW HOMEWORK BOOKS for Y2-Y6

Homework Books

We have listened to your feedback and have improved our homework policy for this year.

Your child will now be provided with two new homework text books.
The Maths Homework Book will cover a range of important Maths skills and the English Book will cover a variety of tasks relating to reading, writing and spelling.

The teacher will decide which task they wish your child to tackle and will publish these in their partnership book.

Please make sure that your child ONLY tackles the tasks published in the partnership book.  Homework will be carefully planned to reinforce or practice key areas of learning and are not to be used without instruction from the teacher.

All homework will be sent out and published in partnership books on a Friday and should be returned to school on the following Wednesday at the latest.

There will be weekly homework for English and Maths.

English homework will include learning spelling rules and sets of words associated with the rules.
The children’s knowledge of these rules will be monitored in school but the words learnt will NOT be tested in traditional style spelling tests.

Children will also be set an additional project or task linked to the wider curriculum each half term. This will be published in the partnership book as will the time expected to complete it.

Your child will also be asked to read EVERY NIGHT for a minimum of 10 minutes. This reading can also be recorded in the partnership book and can include any type of reading in addition to your child’s school reading book.

Year 6 will also be set homework to support their preparation for SATs as the time draws nearer.

The homework policy is available to you in your child’s partnership book but the important thing to note is that it is vital that your child completes their own homework.
What we need you to do is to facilitate it with time, space and lots of encouragement.

Homework Books and other homework will continue to be stored in your child’s plastic zip folder and should be returned each week in this folder.

The Homework Books are expensive items and the work in them very valuable and as such should be looked after carefully.

If Homework Books are not returned on time they cannot be marked on time. Marking is vital for setting the next homework so we have decided that any late returned books will NOT go home the following week but will be kept at school and a suitable time found for your child to complete their homework at school.

We will be reviewing our new approach to homework at the end of this term and will ask for your feedback.

We hope you will love the books and that they will help to make homework easy to manage and rewarding, with clear links to your child’s learning.
